Dec. 13, 2009 - St. John Lutheran Church, Emporia Va. 100th Anniversary
St. John the Baptist Lutheran Church will be celebrating its 100th Anniversary on Sunday, December 13th. St. John’s was founded in 1909 by Slovak immigrants to Greensville County. All members, former members, family and friends are invited to join this very special celebration.
At 11:00 a.m. a celebration worship service will be conducted by and the service delivered by Rev. Dr. Paul L. Maier, who is the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod’s Executive Second Vice President, Professor of Ancient History at Western Michigan University, author and lecturer. Rev. George D. Plvan, pastor of the congregation from 1956 to 1970 and current pastor, Rev. Stephen F. Bocklage will also participate.
Immediately following the worship service, those in attendance will gather at the Greensville County Ruritan Club, where a luncheon is scheduled to start at approximately 1:30 p.m. After the luncheon there will be a “Trip Down Memory Lane” with various presents, including Rev. John Bauer, pastor of the congregation from 1971 to 1976.
